Springs are one of the primary driving forces of blaster performance, most standard blasters have a 1.0 or less spring installed. Upgrading your spring so long as your airseal from the blaster gearbox to the barrel has no leaks will result in an FPS increase.
The spring number refers to the guage of the spring wire, the higher the guage the stronger the spring will become and its energy release potential.
Remember this energy comes from the motor and gears, the stronger the spring the more force or energy is required to turn the gears to pull back the spring.
Ausgel springs are a great performer and we use them in all our custom builds as they are very consistent in performance.
What spring should i use?
If your blaster is a standard nylon gearbox then we reccomend using a 1.18 or 1.28 spring. We also reccomend purchasing a 11V Ausgel battery to ensure enough power is available to actuate the spring.
Any higher spring rating will result in a failure of the gearbox in a rapid amount of time and you will also require upgraded motors and batteries.
What if i want the biggest spring?
Please ensure your gears and gearbox are metal and shimmed correctly, avoid dry firing your blaster as much as possible as high guage springs stress all the internal components and the shell which will result in stress fractures and failure.
We here at Gelforce love Low Guido, check out his video on springs for more information.
